Today’s drastic changes of social values could not properly be handled by deepening specific academic knowledge. One needs to keep posing a lifetime question : what are we? by looking into the overall history of mankind, and by freeing yourself from intellectual constraints imposed by the times. This is precisely where liberal arts play its best role. It is not a knowledge given to you but what you build up yourself by active learning and dialogue with others. This Center’s mission is to provide the place.

I have 25 years of experience in Japanese manufacturing companies operating in the United States, including executive leadership roles at two publicly listed firms. I served as Senior Assistant to the President at the U.S. headquarters of one company for 5 years and later as Chairman and CEO of another for 9 years. I hold an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University (Class of 1992).
As a longtime friend of ISL founder Tomo Noda since our days on the Komaba campus of the University of Tokyo, I have been involved since the early days of ISL’s establishment. While my background is not in the liberal arts, my core interest is to live in alignment with my authentic self, believing that our intellectual knowledge (including our knowledge in the liberal arts) flourishes when combined with the physical awareness of our whole body.
I hope to make it a meaningful experience for everyone by enlivening this perspective. I look forward to working with you all.

I have long been deeply interested in contemplating the structure of society and the fundamental nature of things. Throughout the years, I have engaged in study groups with peers and engaged in in-depth discussions, often late into the night. My involvement with the Liberal Arts Center was inspired by a profound impression I had when reading the works of Professor Seiji Takeda, a professor emeritus at Shizenkan University, which we once used as foundational texts in our study sessions.
As I am not a specialist in the academic field of liberal arts, I strive to serve as a bridge connecting more people to its intellectual and practical significance. I look forward to contributing to this endeavor and engaging with all of you.
